MHEDS was developed in 1972 as a joint project of the Erie Diocesan Mission Office and the Erie Council of Churches to meet the health care needs of Black and Hispanic Farm Workers.

In our 35+ years of operation, services have expanded to serve indigent populations as well as the growing number of migrant farm workers, including Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, and Haitians.  Mental Health/Mental Retardation Case Management & Counseling Services for special populations, WIC Services, and Drug and Alcohol Treatment programs have been added as well.  In addition, MHEDS is the designated primary care service provider in the Erie area for the Keystone Migrant Farmworker Program.
